What We're Doing- 9/17/12--9/21/12

This week our class will be review decimal place value and order of operations to get us ready for new forms of the same concept. The students shouldn't have any trouble with the new pieces. Reading has been up and down with our schedule. We are still reading over "NO TALKING" by Andrew Clements. I'm impressed with the students ability to take some of the book and apply it to their own life. They've even tried competeing to see who can be silent for a whole day. Imagine It is focusing on HERITAGE with a story called "The Dancing Bird of Paradise." We have previously read stories based in Vietnam and Africa. This story takes place in the Orient.
Social Studies will be taught on Monday and Tuesday. We will be packing a lot into those two days and students will have homework on those nights. Our science will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

**Our first field trip was a success. The students showed Gibson PRIDE and enjoyed watching the preformances.

Curriculum Update

Hey everyone,
Below will be some information on what we will be working on this week:

Reading: We will be finishing up Imagine It story Daedalus and Icraus. This will also carry us into Poetry study starting Wednesday. The class has also been working on an Imagine It Study Guide that helps them with the end assessment.

Writing: We are starting our Narrative Process. The beginning of this is focused on just the first paragraph and how to construct it. We will also be working on more descriptive writing throughout our stories.
The students will start the Haunted House story this week.

Math: Our calendar math is still going strong. Please remind your child to take their time and check over their work. We have started working on Multiplication using 10s, 100s and 1000s. The class seems to be picking up on this pattern pretty well.

This week, our class will be eating lunch at 1:35 due to lower grade testing. Please send a snack with your child. This will help them to concentrate and not be as hungry by the end of the day.
